Users’ Guide to the BIOGRAPHICAL FORM

This form is to be filled in by new applicants wishing to join the Association from 16 November 2003 onwards.

Please use one of the three AICA languages (English, French or Spanish). This form must be transmitted to the President of the National Section or to the Secretary-General of the Association, in the case of applications wishing to join the Open Section.

A copy of the biographical form submitted by all successful applicants to join the Association will subsequently be forwarded to the Secretary-General of the Association, for retention with the Association’s records, but will not be divulged to third parties without your written consent.

However, your basic contact details, including all the details on page one of the form, will be included on that part of the Association’s website which is accessible to Members only, unless you specify that any or all parts of it, excepting your name, Section and date of joining the Association are to remain confidential to the members of the AICA Bureau.

Article II of the Statutes, relating to Individual Members, states that:

1. To become a Member of the Association, candidates need first to join either a National Section (see V.2) or the Open Section (see V.3)
   All applications must be accompanied by a short curriculum vitae on a standard biographical form, written in one of the three official languages of the Association.
   Applicants to join the Open Section need, in addition, to submit the names of two sponsors who are members of the Administrative Council, only one of whom may simultaneously belong to the Executive Bureau.

All applicants must produce evidence of sustained activity over the previous three years, in one or more of the following areas:

1. a) Daily/periodical press, or broadcasting on radio, TV or video, or in the electronic media
2. b) Publication of works of art history, aesthetics or criticism
3. c) Teaching of art criticism, art history, aesthetics, curating, or art, at higher or tertiary level
4. d) Curatorial work and analysis for educational or scholarly ends, including the production of scholarly or critical texts for museums or galleries, whose principal aim is not essentially commercial

Each application must be made on this form and includes a curriculum vitae. Please, be very precise in your answers.
